Prenatal/postnatal Depression

Prenatal and postnatal depression, collectively known as perinatal depression, are mood disorders that affect pregnant individuals and new parents. Prenatal depression occurs during pregnancy, while postnatal depression manifests after childbirth. Symptoms include persistent sadness, anxiety, irritability, changes in appetite or sleep patterns, and difficulty bonding with the baby. Perinatal depression can have serious consequences for both parent and child, impacting the well-being of the family unit. Treatment often involves therapy, support groups, medication, and lifestyle changes. Early detection and intervention are crucial for managing symptoms and promoting maternal and infant health.
